Another indication for infection is seen in the neutrophil indicated by the arrow. It is a Dohle body. Dohle bodies are not actually inclusion bodies, but they consist of basophilic cytoplasm left over from the promyelocyte. They also represent a rapid turnover of cells and asynchronous maturation of the cytoplasm. Dohle bodies often are seen together with toxic granulation.
