The plasma cell dyscrasias can be classified as shown in Table 1. The primary neoplastic diseases are MM, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia (WM), heavy chain disease (HCD), plasma cell leukemia and plasmacytoma (solitary and extramedullary). The primary non-neoplastic plasma cell disorders are BMG, amyloidosis, and cold agglutinin disease. Secondary plasmacytosis may be seen in response to infection, malignancy, liver disease, and connective tissue disorders.
